A Basket Full of Sunshine

It was a beautiful day to get out and go junking on Saturday. Two estate sales were advertised and mom and I decided we would hit both and then go and check out a couple of the thrift stores. Mom recently got a GPS (as we are directionally challenged), so this was our first time using it. It took us straight to the first sale with no problems although it was hard to talk over the constant chatter of the GPS. I picked up some Fiesta, an industrial chair, a garden statue, and a few other odds and ends.

Need to figure out what to do with the seat

He weighs about 1000 lbs

So as we left the first sale we put the address for the second sale into the GPS and off we went. Believe it or not we could not find the second sale. The GPS had us right on top of it but all we saw was a Church. We rode up and down that road two or three times and finally decided that the GPS was wrong or we had put in the wrong street number. We did eventually find the sale (thank goodness because it was a hoarding delight). We were overwhelmed with the basement in this house, there was so much junk and we love nothing better than digging through tons of junk. I found some vintage Christmas items, two old laundry baskets, and some old marquee letters. Upstairs I found a vintage planter and some beautiful vintage sheets, pillow cases, and aprons. There was a little bit of disappointment as I really wanted the chandelier in the entry way (one of the most beautiful ones I have ever seen) but they were not selling it (I asked twice). Mom bought an old typewriter table and we paid and then tried to figure out how we were going to get all of this in her car. We had to completely unload and reload the car but we did finally get it all in there.

My basket full of Sunshine!

I really love these

I found two of these laundry baskets.

Needless to say, we did not make it to the thrift stores, we were exhausted after unloading and reloading the car. So we just headed on home with our treasures.

If anyone is a Fiesta expert I could use some help identifying the color of the green Fiesta I bought. There are several greens that were made and I think this is medium green but I am not sure.

More photos here on our Facebook.

Hope you all had a fabulous weekend and found beautiful treasures.

  2. Flash back to my youth when I saw the Fiesta dish items. When my sister and I were young my mother had a full set of Fiesta dishes, and we hated it! At that time, everyone was using melmac dinner ware, we so wanted my mom to buy new dishes so we could have dishes that all matched. I still can remember our multi colored dinner table. To this day I still dislike Fiesta dishes, but I am happy that you found some that you love. You and your mom find the best sales, and find exciting stuff.♥

  6. I'm not a Fiesta expert but I think you have the original green from the 1940s and the casserole is worth a lot! May be worth around $200 or more. I just sold a similar red covered casserole on ebay before Christmas and failed to put a reserve on it so I got less than I should have. It belonged to my late husband's grandmother. Based on the other Fiesta pieces you bought - also original colors - I'd guess the green is from the same era and very valuable. You TOTALLY scored! And I love the laundry baskets too. What great finds you came away with. Congratulations!

  7. Gorgeous Fiesta casserole. Check out Happy Heidi's site http://www.happyheidi.com/antiques/fiesta_medium_green.html (sorry, I don't know how to make a link in a comment). I think it looks like the medium green which is rare. She has another page with price estimates on it - if you look to the right on that page it says Fiesta Price Guide. Could be a great find!!!

Wouldn't it be nice if the GPS had a thrifting function and just took you to all the really good places each weekend!
