Sewing with the Red Headed Girls

No junking for me this weekend. There was one good sale going on in Johnston SC but I really didn't feel like driving that far plus I am still not over all the stuff I bought last weekend (and all the money I spent). So I ended spending my day with the Red Headed Girls instead (which is even better than junking). They have expressed an interest in learning to sew so I met them and their lovely mother at Joann's a couple of weeks ago and bought them a sewing machine. After we picked out the sewing machine we roamed through the store and let them pick out a pattern, fabrics and notions for their first project. Once our buggy was totally busting at the seams we settled up and went home to start our project. Of course they were expecting to finish it that day. I had to explain to them that you had to have some patience when sewing. There are a lot of things you have to do before you actually get to the sewing part. So we got through most of the "not fun" stuff as they called it and really didn't even get to sew anything that day. Yesterday I went back over for our second lesson and we ended up finishing the project. It turned out so cute and my Red Head was so proud of her pillow! I thought I would share some pictures of our sewing circle!

I can't even put into words how good I felt when I got home, even better than a junking high. Seeing the joy on their little faces is the best treasure of all. I love making memories with them.

  1. This will be a forever memory! I remember the first thing my daughter made about 30 years ago. Ours wasn't as structured. She made a person by sewing on the pieces she cut out onto a fabric backing. Not sophisticated, but definitely a beginning.
