Let the Christmas Decorating Begin

So I had plans on Saturday to start my Christmas decorating but mom called early that morning and wanted to go out and piddle around so we did. We were gone the better part of the day and when I got home I decided the decorating could wait one more day. So on Sunday I started in the Dining Room. Most of my decorations in this room are thrifted. Here is a peek at my Dining Room. I still need to decide what to put in the bell jar (if you have any suggestions, please let me know), but other than that I think I am done.

Bought these cuties from an Artist at the Augusta Market.

Thrifted Sleigh.

I made the wine sleeve and added a vintage wreath.

Thrifted Christmas Wishes!

Thrifted linens, glasses and silverware (silver plate) - Dishes were a gift.

Thifted plate and bell jar.

Barrister bookcase houses many of my vintage Christmas goodies.

Found this lovely at a yard sale.

More to come.
Hope you all are having a wonderful week.

Snowgirl

Last year I found a great little project on JunkMarket. Someone made some very cute snowmen using old bottles. I have a ton of old bottles, I pick them up often at sales (I just can't leave them behind and they are so cheap). So, I thought this would be a good project for me to try out. I went to Michael's and found some snowmen heads for .49 cents a piece, other than that I had everything else I needed at home. These were pretty easy to make and took no time at all. Here is my Snowgirl!

I think she is so sweet. If you have a Pinterest, I have the original from JunkMarket pinned on my Christmas board. Please check it out as the originals are much cuter than mine.

Real Beauty Is On The Inside

I cannot tell you how excited I am at this moment. I found something today in the Goodwill that just made my day. It all started a couple of weeks ago at the Scott Antique Show when I spotted an item that I thought was GORGEOUS! This lady had re-purposed an item that I never would have thought of (maybe some of you have) and I was mesmerized by it. However, she was asking $125 a piece and I thought to myself  "Self, I think you could make one these for a whole lot less". Of course I had to find the right materials and who knows how long that could take, it's not the kind of thing you come across everyday. But today was the day. Here is what I found.

You may be saying to yourself, what the heck is that and where is the beauty? Why it's inside of course.

So I removed the glass from the thermos and this is what I ended up with.

A beautiful vase. The lady at the Scott show had someone make little wire  holders (much cuter than what I used) to set the vase in, but I had to make due with what I had laying around the house. I used a little silver plate candlestick I picked up somewhere for $1. So for $4 I have done my best to make my own. I kind of love it!

Hope you all are having better luck where you are at, one yard sale advertised here this weekend and that's it. So I guess I'll have more time for projects. I also picked up a sewing book at the Goodwill that has some cute ideas in it. Can't wait to try some out.

Kitchen Cart To Hold My Treasures

A while back I picked up a little plant stand at an estate sale. I spotted it and immediately knew what I wanted to do with it (this rarely happens, I usually buy something in hopes that I will come up with something to do with it). It was on wheels, was black and had three shelves. I knew it would have to be transformed. I snatched it up, paid for it ($10), and off to Lowe's I went. Bought some red spray paint, headed home and went to work. I have to say that I loved the way it came out, love that it was once a plant stand but now is a kitchen cart, and love the way it holds my treasures perfectly.

Hope everyone found beautiful things this weekend.

Scott Antique Show Part 2 - The Things that I did bring Home

Last night I posted about our trip to the Scott Antique Show in Atlanta GA and posted some photos of the things that I wanted but did not come home with me. You can read about it here. So now on to the things that did come home with me. For a while now I have been wanting a set of french bistro chairs in white and bingo I found a set of six. Here they are at the show (I wanted the table too, but had to pass on it).

Here they are in my home, four for the breakfast room and one for my bedroom, plus I have a spare.

Outside under one of the tents I spotted this baby, I think there are many ways I can put her to use.

She has beautiful rusty metal wheels, basket can come out and she folds up. I think she will go in my sewing room to hold fabric. Please forgive the dust, she has not been cleaned up yet.

Those were my bigger purchases, but I did make a few smaller purchases to include a piece of linen, some old skeleton keys, some apothecary bottles, a metal letter, a neat little bottle carrier, and an etched glass Cloche Bell Jar (not vintage but pretty).

It was a lovely day and it was nice to spend time with mom and my brother looking at tons of antiques. Again, please check my earlier post on what did not come home with me, you must see the 1940's Bar Cart and for those of you that have picked up the creepy dolls in your thrifting adventures you need to see the creepy doll art I photographed (I am surprised I did not have nightmares).

Hope everyone had a great weekend.

Scott Antique Show Part 1 - What I didn't bring home

So me, mom and my brother John hit the road yesterday morning to go to the Scott Antique Show in Atlanta GA. The show consists of two very large building packed full of vintage goodness. There are also vendors set up outside under tents. This is where I go to find unique items for my myself. I don't usually buy anything to resell due to the prices. This would be at the top of the food chain in the Antiquing/Collecting world.

So on to the good stuff, I tried to take a few photos but really got caught up in the shopping (it can be quite overwhelming) but I did manage to get a few shots of some things I really loved and a few just for fun.

There were three things that I spotted and really wanted to bring home with me but I was not willing to pay the price for two of them and the third was not for sell as it was a display piece. There is a vendor there that always has the most fascinating items. I always seem to gravitate towards something he has and this trip was no different than any other. He had a 1940's bar cart that was to die for. It was so gorgeous! I knew before asking (as he never prices his stuff) that is was going to be more than I wanted to spend and I was right - $495. Still it will stay in my head for quite a while and who knows maybe one day I will find one at an estate sale (unlikely but a girl can dream can't she).

The second item I was drawn to was a mannequin head display. I have been wanting a long neck one for as long as I can remember but usually vendors use these for displays and are not willing to part with them. I will ask anyway because you never know (this worked for me once in the past). The answer was no and then she tried to sell me a different one (but is was not a long neck and I was not interested).

The last item which I desperately wanted (my brother offered to pay for it but I couldn't let him do that) was a child size mannequin. I sew and really would love to have a little Melva (Melva is my mannequin I use for sewing). She was a lovely little thing and I sure hated to leave her behind.

Here are a few more photos of some of the loveliness that did not come home with me.

And for all of you who have found the creepy old dolls and taken them home with you, here's and idea of what you can do with them. By the way, I was happy to leave these in Atlanta.

You can check out all the pictures I took here on our Facebook page. Be sure to check back to see Part 2 - the things that did come home with me.

If you live near Atlanta, you should really try to check out this show. You can go here for information and dates.

Hope everyone had a wonderful weekend and found lots of vintage goodness!
