Rust and Georgia Red Clay

You just never know what you are going to come home with when you set out on your junking adventure for the day. Mom and I headed out early this morning and our first stop was a Church sale where we found absolutely nothing. How disappointing (I was hoping this wasn't going to be how the rest of the day turned out). We stopped at a few more sales that again yielded absolutely nothing. So over to Clearwater SC we headed and BINGO we found stuff, lots of stuff. The first stop was a weird kind of sale.  A couple of gentlemen hold an annual "Estate Sale" (that's what they listed it as in the paper) and sell some of the vintage items they have picked up here and there over the year. One of the gentlemen gave me and mom several pieces of pottery that he had dug up from an old mill here in Augusta. It is covered in Georgia red clay and it is beautiful and it was FREE!

I think the pottery piece is soooo pretty!

Old Artic Ice Shaver (I understand that it was also sometimes used as a snowball maker)

Little pretty scale (I love the colors)

Our next stop was an not a planned one. As we were driving down the highway we passed a junk store that was going out of business and it was calling our names so we quickly made a u-turn. Oh I am so happy that we did. I got this old rusty RC Cola display rack (mom said "only you would want that") and some pretty vintage aprons.

Also, yesterday I got this beauty at the Catholic Social Services.

So I am very happy with my finds this week!

More photos on our Facebook page here if you want to take a peek.

Hoping you all found beautiful things this weekend!

  5. ohhh, tell your mom she was wrong ! I would have gotten that RC Cola rack, too. When my hubby was first sweet on me he brought me RC colas and peppermint patties ! It would be a lovely reminder of so long ago. I love that you do this with your mom. I love junking, but never did this with my mom, except to go to flea markets with both mom and dad. I hope you have a great Mother's Day with your !

  6. I agree with Connie, you DO find the greatest stuff! The cola rack is very cool. Free is always nice, especially when the item is as sweet as that pottery piece you got! The old ice shaver is really fun; certainly speaks of times-gone-by. I can just imagine an afternoon party in the South where someone was in charge of shaving the ice for drinks.

  7. I vote for the wedding cake topper, it's stellar! And I echo Patty, I never got to thrift with my mom, too busy raising little ones and she's gone on now...ah well!
