Sewing - Tote from Vintage Pillowcase

I lost my little tote bag that I have carried around forever (I was devastated when I realized it was gone - I just loved that bag). Not sure what happened to it so I had to use plastic grocery bags to carry my stuff to work for the past week and that's just not going to do. So today I had a little time on my hands and went up to the sewing room and made me a new one. I used a vintage pillowcase that I picked up last weekend.

I love how it turned out and can't wait to show up to work tomorrow with this lovely little bag on my arm.

Hope you are having a great weekend!

Estate Sales - Brides Bank Flower Frog

One of the things I love about my junking hobby is learning about the past. Sometimes I pick up items just because they appeal to me but I have no idea what they are. This happened to me on Friday when I picked up a lovely glass object but had no clue about what it could be. I ran over to a sale at lunch and made a dash through the house and managed to fill my bag up to include this wonderful glass piece. When I got home that evening I started researching and this is what I found out about this lovely object.

It is a hand blown glass "Brides Bank" that would be a gift to the bride and gifts of money were inserted or threaded through the loops during the reception. It could then be later used as a flower frog to arrange flowers.

I just love it and intended to sale it on Etsy, but after researching I think I am going to keep it. It's just too charming to let go.

Here are the other items that went in my bag on Friday. The Head Vase was a great find, I have seen her called Martha Washington and Marie Antoinette so I am not sure who she is. I love the leather jewelry box (at least I think it's a jewelry box) and the tiny feather hat is just adorable (it was meant to cover a hair bun):

My boss was having a tag sale of her mother in law's belongings on Saturday so Mom and I took a trip over. I was really happy with what I came home with. They had quite a bit of vintage Christmas.

And a few more items I picked up there.

AND my sisters left some gifts for me over at Mom's that I picked up on Saturday - how cute are these guys!
What a great junking weekend it has been.

Hope you are having a wonderful weekend!

Estate Sale - Vintage Dolls

There was one estate sale this weekend and I was on the fence about going. I had some errands to run on Friday and since I was out and about I decided to go by and give it a look see. I was pleasantly surprised and actually ended up buying quite a bit. I couldn't resist the two creepy composition dolls and an old wicker doll carriage (Hedstrom Union - I think around 1930's). The doll carriage had belonged to the owner of the home when she was a child. The larger doll is a Shirley Temple Look Alike (she is not marked). Both dolls are composition heads, shoulders, arms and legs with cloth bodies.

I also found some great vintage Christmas smalls to include old corsages and gift tags.

And some other smalls.

I also bought an old vintage metal soft drink rack but it has not been unloaded yet!

On another note, we had a 4th of July celebration at my house on Saturday. I had 3 of my nieces and nephews over as well as my children for a nice BBQ dinner. We ended up looking at old family photos and put a 1000 piece puzzle together. It was so much fun I thought I would share some pictures. (I bought the puzzle at the yard sale on Friday)

Wishing you a Happy 4th!
