Being Crafty with the Red Headed Girls

Well I have to say that this has been one of the worst years ever for me as far as Estate Sales go. Good sales have been very few and far between.

So my sweet Red Headed Girls came up with something to fill the void in my "junking life". They expressed interest in creating something that they could sell at a craft show with Mom in October. After much thought I decided we could make Christmas Tags, these would be easy for the girls to make and we could make lots of quickly. It also allows them to put their (and my) creativity to work.

Of course I had to make a trip to Michaels to get supplies (punches, card stock, stamps, etc) which is dangerous for me because I can get stuck in there for hours and spend a small fortune. Luckily I already had a lot of materials that we could use so I didn't completely wipe out my bank account.

I had the girls over for the afternoon a couple of weeks ago for a work day and we got quite a lot accomplished. I have also been working on some tags in between our work days.

Here is a little sample of what we have been working on:

We started off simple, card stock and stamps.

Then we tried some vintage materials (old damaged Christmas box, vintage game cards, and old Bingo cards) and I love the way these turned out!

Tried our skills with book pages. Really tried to incorporate the book pages that had Christmas Music on them - look closely.

I had some vintage Christmas Stickers that we put them to use.

And of course I had to use some vintage Christmas images from old cards, post cards and ephemera that I had on hand - we glittered some of these up.

I also tried my hand at a few other book page crafts, made some Christmas Hats for a few of the Dolls! Not sure I am real skilled at this but I think they turned out cute.

We are working on packaging now and have come up with our little logo -
RHG for the Red Headed Girls.

I have really enjoyed this adventure and it certainly has helped with the Junkin Blues that I am feeling right now. Love my Red Headed Girls and please wish them luck as we get closer to the craft show. I want them to learn something from this experience. By the way - I asked them what they wanted to do with the money that they earn and they said they would be giving some to their Church and the rest to buy more chicks! So proud of them!

Hope you are having a wonderful weekend!

Estate Sale - Antique Store Liquidation

The Antique Store that I purchased all the Storybook Dolls at is going out of business (maybe why I got the dolls so cheap). They advertised a liquidation sale in the paper this week so I ran down yesterday at lunch to check it out. I was a little disappointed as most of the prices were the same as the last time I was there. I didn't buy very much but did find a few things.

This was my best buy I think ($15), I am not sure exactly what it is (if you know help me out). It was tagged as a vintage oak picture frame but I don't think it is a picture frame. I think it is some kind of menu board or bulletin board. It looks like it was made to change things out frequently judging by the hinged back.

I am not sure what I am going to do with it yet but I think this piece has lots of potential. I love it!!

Here are the rest of my meager findings:

I love this vintage fabric and got a good bit for $5. I often pick up vintage picture frames, they just have such charm. Two vintage beaded purses (I don't even know why I bought these?? I guess they just looked like they needed rescuing). A small camel cigarette tin that will be used for storage.

On Friday night, I bought tickets to take the Red Headed Girls to see Peter Pan presented by the Greater Augusta Youth Theatre. We ate at the Boll Weevil Cafe downtown before the show. They loved the play and we had a wonderful time. Their mother and I have decided that this will be a tradition going forward. I love making memories with these sweet girls!

The Strawberry Cake was Delicious!!

Had to get a photo in front of the Theatre.

It's been a wonderful Weekend! Hope you are having a good one too!

Sewing with the Red Headed Girls

No junking for me this weekend. There was one good sale going on in Johnston SC but I really didn't feel like driving that far plus I am still not over all the stuff I bought last weekend (and all the money I spent). So I ended spending my day with the Red Headed Girls instead (which is even better than junking). They have expressed an interest in learning to sew so I met them and their lovely mother at Joann's a couple of weeks ago and bought them a sewing machine. After we picked out the sewing machine we roamed through the store and let them pick out a pattern, fabrics and notions for their first project. Once our buggy was totally busting at the seams we settled up and went home to start our project. Of course they were expecting to finish it that day. I had to explain to them that you had to have some patience when sewing. There are a lot of things you have to do before you actually get to the sewing part. So we got through most of the "not fun" stuff as they called it and really didn't even get to sew anything that day. Yesterday I went back over for our second lesson and we ended up finishing the project. It turned out so cute and my Red Head was so proud of her pillow! I thought I would share some pictures of our sewing circle!

I can't even put into words how good I felt when I got home, even better than a junking high. Seeing the joy on their little faces is the best treasure of all. I love making memories with them.
