Junk Stores

Well still no estate sales but my overwhelming need to rummage through junk drove me and Mom out Saturday morning to hit some of the local junk stores and one church sale.

The one thing I do like about shopping at church sales and junk stores are the prices. Things can be found for less than a dollar. We hit one church sale, the Salvation Army store, the Catholic Social Services and last but not least our favorite junk shop over in the North Augusta.

I am happy to say it was enough to satisfy my craving (well at least until next weekend) and I am pretty happy with my haul.

Isn't he just the cutest thing!

A local piece for my collection.

Just loved the box!

Story Book Doll, she needs some TLC so she may get a little makeover.

I think this is my favorite find, Babbacombe Pottery Fox string holder, when put your scissors in it looks like he is wearing glasses. He is chipped on the back and a small chip where the scissors go but I didn't care. He is already hanging on my wall upstairs.

Small Doll - I know nothing about, but she cleaned up pretty well, thank goodness she has that big old hat because she is completely bald, I need to find her some hair.

I just adore this old folk art doll, she is stuffed with saw dust and I love her clothes!

A few old pins from the church sale.

Lots of Ephemera! I was like a pig in mud digging through a box of old papers, I found some lovely old greeting cards.

These cards were kind of special, they each have a little story book inside them.

This is a hand painted piece. Have no idea of the date but I am assuming possibly an art student painted it for an upcoming exhibition.

The clover pin is worthless but I just love little pieces like that, the heart is sterling/marcasite.

Babbacombe Pottery mark.

Hope you are having a wonderful Labor Day Weekend!

Estate Sale - Vintage Postcards

My brother and I ran over to an estate sale yesterday morning. It was on the hill (my favorite kind). I was kind of on the fence about going because everything looked so expensive and there were not a lot of smalls which is what I mainly look for. Since my brother called and said he wanted to go, I decided I was in. I didn't buy a lot for resale but did pick up a few things for myself.

Love these liquor decanters, they will fit right in with my cocktail collection, the little skinny dog paper weight is just so adorable. He has found a home here.

I also found this piece. Not really sure if this was hand made or manufactured. It appears to have been made from an old barrister book case to me. It has the word GLOBE on the top. Doesn't really matter to me because I love it. I can always use a piece like this. I will be replacing the knob though.

Much to my delight I found these old Augusta Postcards in the drawer after I left the sale.

I was really, really excited about finding this original piece of Art for $12. It is a beautiful painting, it just spoke to me.

This morning, mom and I went back to the Antique Store downtown so I could get the rest of the Story Book Dolls that I didn't buy when we were there about a month ago (I adore all the little notes that are written in each box). I also bought a cute little vintage lunch pail and an old bowl to match a larger one I already have.

Hope you are having a fabulous weekend!

Estate Sales - 1920's Coat Brush

I had a pretty good week as far as junking goes. I hit one estate sale on Friday afternoon and then Mom and I went out to the Annual Columbia County Yard Sale at the Fairgrounds on Saturday morning and then hit another estate sale before calling a day and heading home.

I did not get to the Friday estate sale until late in the day. Some of the things I saw in the online ad were already gone but I poked around and still managed to scrounge up a bag full of stuff.

The little Santa house is adorable and made in Japan. The December and June girls were only a dollar a piece. June has a broken wing but she will be put back together and go to live on the misfit shelf upstairs. December will go into my vintage Christmas collection.

I collect old cufflinks and was happy to find a few plus some other bits and pieces. The fly fishing set is something I have never seen before. Thought they were kind of neat.

Two pottery dog bowls. One has a small crack but they were pretty cheap so now I have two dog bowls and no dog!

Another perpetual calendar.

I also found a couple of books, I couldn't believe I found a Hans Christian Anderson Fairy Tale book that was the exact same copy as the one we had growing up. The illustrations in this book are the stuff nightmares are made of (and yes I am not kidding I had nightmares based on the illustrations in this book, I think my brother and I were both terrified and fascinated with this book at the same time).

I also picked up a couple of 1930's, 1940's Childrens Prayer Books, the covers are toast but the insides are in very good shape. I will probably take these apart and sell the book pages. I think they would be very cute in a nursery.

This old Bingo set came home with me.

I didn't really get that much at the Columbia County yard sale but I do really like the few pieces that I did find. My favorite find was this little 1920's coat brush. Isn't she sweet (she does look a little grumpy though)!

I was excited to find another Petite Choses All Holiday Wreath. I have a larger one but this small one is really adorable.

I also found this little Birthday candle holder set made in Japan.

The estate sale we stopped at on Saturday yielded me a sterling cake server and cake breaker, and a very pretty footed serving tray.

So it was a great junking weekend and I always enjoy having Mom along. Hope your weekend has been wonderful too!
