Estate Sales - Vintage Christmas

After last weekend's trip doing the Peach Tree 23 through SC I did not plan to go to any sales this weekend. However, I did spy one sale that looked interesting, I was on the fence about going but talked myself into riding over at lunch on Friday.

I'm really glad I did, I found some really great pieces for my Vintage Christmas collection.

Love the trio, they are not in the best condition but will still look lovely to display with the rest of my Vintage Christmas. The poor little boy looks like he has had a rough life - he has a hole in the back of his head but from the front you can't tell. The girls are in good shape. Not sure if there is any way to remove the dingy look from their robes. I am afraid to try, might damage them further so for now they will stay as they are.

The beautiful Angel also is in rough shape, she is missing her wings and her face is cracking a bit. But I will find her some wings and she is still beautiful to me. I have another one very similar to this one. I think she may be from the 1930's or 1940's.

And this sweet little Santa and some bottle brush trees.

I did get a few other things not in the Vintage Christmas category.
Love this German Half Doll.

Adorable little pillowcase.

A few other odds and ends.

Hope you are having a great weekend!

Estate Sales - Brides Bank Flower Frog

One of the things I love about my junking hobby is learning about the past. Sometimes I pick up items just because they appeal to me but I have no idea what they are. This happened to me on Friday when I picked up a lovely glass object but had no clue about what it could be. I ran over to a sale at lunch and made a dash through the house and managed to fill my bag up to include this wonderful glass piece. When I got home that evening I started researching and this is what I found out about this lovely object.

It is a hand blown glass "Brides Bank" that would be a gift to the bride and gifts of money were inserted or threaded through the loops during the reception. It could then be later used as a flower frog to arrange flowers.

I just love it and intended to sale it on Etsy, but after researching I think I am going to keep it. It's just too charming to let go.

Here are the other items that went in my bag on Friday. The Head Vase was a great find, I have seen her called Martha Washington and Marie Antoinette so I am not sure who she is. I love the leather jewelry box (at least I think it's a jewelry box) and the tiny feather hat is just adorable (it was meant to cover a hair bun):

My boss was having a tag sale of her mother in law's belongings on Saturday so Mom and I took a trip over. I was really happy with what I came home with. They had quite a bit of vintage Christmas.

And a few more items I picked up there.

AND my sisters left some gifts for me over at Mom's that I picked up on Saturday - how cute are these guys!
What a great junking weekend it has been.

Hope you are having a wonderful weekend!

Estate Sale Finds

I had a fabulous week in Estate Sale Land this week! I only went to one sale but it was a good one. The prices were really reasonable and I found some fun stuff!

I love old book illustrations. Especially the ones from the early 1900's and I brought home a bag full of them. The covers are damaged and some are in poor shape but the illustrations are still lovely to look at. I often buy old books just for the illustrations so I don't mind if the spine is shot or there is damage on the cover, they still have value to me. I grabbed this first book so fast it would make your head spin. It's a 1911 Harrison Fisher book. The cover is horrible as you can see from the first photo but the inside is in really great shape, oh how I love this book!

Here are some of the other books I picked up (warning - lots of pictures).

I made a really big score with this Black Waterman Opera Pen. Google it, you will be surprised.

I have always wanted one of the hair pin flower frogs but have never come across any until yesterday, I found not one but three!

I also brought home these goodies.

You would think that was enough right but after talking with Mom last night we thought we would run back over today. Everything was 50% off when we arrived this morning. I didn't find a lot of vintage today but I did find a lot of baking and office supplies for around .25 to .50 a piece.

So I am pretty happy with my haul this week. Hope you are happy with yours!!
