I have to say I was a little unnerved within minutes of arriving home today. It is very common for me to come home to an empty house, John (my eldest) is usually at work and Zach (my youngest) is out with his girlfriend.
However my third child (the four legged kind) Lucy is always home. I can't remember a time that she has not been here (with the exception of her famous escapes in which she always returns home within the hour). But she is not here. Last night during the storm (which upsets her terribly) Zach took her up to his room so she wouldn't be so scared and discovered a lump in her ear flap. Needless to say she had to go to the Vet today. She has a hematoma and will have to spend the night at the Animal Clinic and have surgery in the morning. She was so scared and I really felt horrible to have to leave her. She was so happy on the way over to the Vet, really enjoying the car ride, she was smiling. That was not the way I left her. She was not a happy camper. I really miss her and she hasn't even been gone for an hour! Please say a prayer for us both tonight. Hopefully she will be back at home tomorrow and better than ever.

An Art Glass Day - My Finds
Mom and I were up and out early Saturday morning with our route mapped out. We had toyed around with the idea of attending an Estate Sale that was about an hour and a half away, but in the end decided to stay in town. There were several promising ads in the paper. I think we made the right choice as we found some really great stuff and the prices at yards sales can't be beat. The best sale of the day was an unadvertised one that we kind of stumbled upon where we found some Murano art glass. Although we found some great items at that sale I didn't think we were ever going to find our way out of that neighborhood. We finally had to stop and ask a man that was out cutting grass how to get back to the main road. Mom and I really have no sense of direction! We did eventually find our way out and over to a moving sale in an older neighborhood in town. I was poking around outside when I heard someone calling my name. I looked up and there was my sister Van. We all ended up going in together and purchasing an old dining room set with an unusual hutch and buffet. The last stop of the day (as the heat was unbearable) was a dealer who was going out of business. Of course they do not like to part with their stuff at the prices I like to pay but we did end up making a few good deals. Here are some of my finds for the day.
As I am always posting my finds, please click here to see Mom's finds and as always you can check out our Facebook Page to see all our finds for this weekend.
Hope everyone had a great weekend and found many treasures!

An Art Glass Day - Mom's Finds
I did remember to bring my camera on our outing this weekend so I could get some photo's of Mom's treasures before we parted company on Saturday. She always finds some great items and I am usually unable to share them as I can never remember the camera. So here are Mom's finds!
The little bird was in the birdcage that mom purchased and she didn't care for him so he came home with me. He will fit in nicely with my vintage Christmas items.

Bling, Peaches, Figs and a Bird
Bling, Peaches, Figs and a Bird - what do they all have in common? They were all gifts from my mother this week. What a lucky girl I am. This past Tuesday as we were working in our booth at Trends & Traditions Mom pulled out some of her handmade jewelry that she was planning on putting out and I saw a piece that I really, really, really fell in love with. Mom could sense this and she put that piece back in her bag (oh goody it's mine!). Later in the week Mom called to let me know that she had some peaches for me. Peaches are my absolute favorite! When I picked up the peaches I also got a jar of homemade fig preserves (which reminds me of my childhood). Then as we were out junking this morning, mom purchased a decorative birdcage that had a little glittery bird inside, she did not really care for the bird but I thought he was precious and he fits in with my vintage Christmas items so he flew the coop and came home with me!
So blessed to have such a wonderful mother!

Rescue Me
No fabulous estate sales this weekend, not even that many yard sales. I guess it's just too hot. So, my plan was to do some climate controlled shopping. My first stop was the Catholic Social Services thrift store. I usually go there on Saturday but was stressing a little at work on Friday and decided to take my lunch break and do some thrifting (that always makes me feel better). I strolled through the housewares and picked up a few small items and then moved over to the clothing and that is where I hit the jackpot. First I found a vintage Abe Schrader slip (in perfect condition) and then the find of the day, a Vintage Handmade Kimono and matching lounging pajama's. The Kimono and lounging pajama's had some stains and looked like it needed to be rescued and taken home for a little TLC. I must be honest I lost focus after that (couldn't imagine finding anything else as spectacular as that Kimono).
After work (when my head had cleared and I was able to focus again) I headed over to the Salvation Army. Didn't really find anything, next stop Goodwill. I walked in and promptly ran in to my sister Val who was there with my sister Van. We chatted for a few minutes and then parted company to concentrate on our thrifting. I did find a couple of great items that I am very excited about. A Toscany Clipper Decanter and 6 glasses (missing stopper) made it's way into my basket as did a pair of Vintage Syroco wall shelves and some fabric. I checked out and went home. I had just stepped in the door when my phone rang, it was my youngest sister Vonda. I asked her what she had been doing and she said she had just left the Goodwill. We were there at the same time and I just didn't see her. So I guess all of Helen's Daughters were in a thifty mood.
So all in all a great thifting weekend. If anyone knows of a place that specializes in cleaning vintage clothing, please let me know. I would like to give the Kimono and pajamas the TLC they deserve.
Hope everyone found great vintage things this weekend.

Hill House Part 1
Okay my experience today will take more than one blog to chronicle. I was wide awake at 6 a.m. this morning (I should have been in a deep sleep) but the anticipation of what I might find at the Hill House was weighing too heavy on my mind. I got up and the first order of the business for the day was to call my mother to see if she had changed her mind about attending the sale with me. She had (somehow I knew that she would). I was ready, out the door, and at my mother's at 8 a.m. and did remember to grab my camera. We headed over, got a good parking spot, grabbed our totes and got in line (a pretty good spot too). There were a few teasers on the porch (an old trunk, rocking horse and a gorgeous baby carriage) to keep our minds occupied while we waited. After what seemed like an hour (in reality was about 15 minutes) the doors opened. My strategy was to head upstairs first but that didn't work out as they had the stairs roped off and everything was on the first floor. It was all a blur from there, I just started flinging stuff in my tote left and right. I met up with mom at some point and she had like 3 items in her bag. How does that happen, I guess we are different that way, I buy too much and she doesn't buy enough. I just don't have any self control when it comes to this part of my life. I think I left the sale with about 47 items and mom had about 5. I plan to sort through everything, take some pictures of my great vintage finds and post part 2 tomorrow. So stay tuned...
