I'll Fly Away

What a fabulous thrifting weekend. On Friday I was able to squeeze in two Estate Sales that were in close proximity to my work. The first one was at the home of a lady that ran a bakery in Augusta for many years. I can remember my mother getting us Birthday cakes from Smoak's bakery when I was very young, so I just knew this house would be filled with great baking things (old cook books, mixing bowls, etc). Sadly that was not the case, but I did make an incredible find. My eyes were drawn to a couple of great big glass items sitting on the dining room table. Two hand blown glass fly catchers with the original hand blown stoppers and thank goodness there were two because I think I am going to have to keep one for myself.

 I also picked up this pair of beautiful pheasants.

So great finds at sale #1. On to the second sale. I found quite a bit of little stuff and only spent $15. For my $15 dollars I took home 2 Vera Scarfs, 10 vintage linen tea towels, a beautiful vintage tablecloth, 2 juice glasses made in Italy, about 12 old small locks, a rosary, and an old sock darner.

Today I was able to spend some time with 2 of my most favorite people in the world, my Mom and my Brother. We set out early to an Estate Sale in Louisville GA. This sale advertised some stuff that is right up my alley, barrister book cases, metal cabinets and some really paint challenged furniture. I was really disappointed that most of these items were really damaged, already purchased or overpriced. So no big items purchased here. I did find one paint challenged item that me and my brother (my mom - not so much) thought was pretty cool. I think it's a bird perch. I can picture a bird taking a break on this and getting his second wind and flying away again. I can also picture this in my house with tea towels hanging on it. I also found a cute old planter/pot. My brother bought a big box of vintage prints and magazines. He was kind enough to give me a few. Mom bought a really great lamp.

Great Road trip today with my favorite allies (my Mom and my Brother). We headed out early this morning  to an Estate Sale in the country and had a fabulous time. After we left the sale we took the scenic route back home and I got some great pictures I thought I would share.

We stopped for lunch at "The Dutch House" where they were giving out free smiles!

Shoo Fly Shoo

Just a quick post to share a great find today. Went to an estate sale (okay well maybe I went to 2) at lunch today. In house number one I spotted some big beautiful glass on the dining room table. As I was examining the glass a women came up behind me and said "Do you know what those are?", I did know what they were (I saw one on someone's blog recently, see what you can learn from reading blogs). We chatted for a minute and I picked them up and headed to the checkout and much to my surprise the woman I was chatting with followed me. The next thing I know she is telling the Estate Lady (who had them marked as terrariums) that she had way under priced them. Gee thanks helpful lady! Anyway, it did not make a difference the price remained the same and I walked away with two beautiful vintage blown glass fly catchers (can fly catchers be beautiful - why yes they can).

Eight is Enough

So mom and I have plans this weekend. We are heading out to the country again. Got an e-mail from an estate company listing lots of goodies that are just my style (maybe not so much mom's style, half the things I am all googly eyed over she hates). Anyway, they are saying they have eight Barrister Bookcases. Eight!

Okay, so I already have one but I could always use another. I got lucky with this one when my cousin called to say a co-worker was cleaning out his parents house and knowing my love of all things old she knew I might want to stop by the night before his yard sale to take a look. Price paid $150.00. So looking forward to this sale and hope I have wonderful things to share this weekend. I'll try to remember my camera!

Cocktails Anyone?

A while back I went over to my sister Van's house for a visit and spotted something in her foyer that I really wanted. I had no problem telling her that I wanted it, in fact I kind of blurted it out. She said she wasn't sure if she going to keep it or not and would let me know. I have been patiently waiting every since that visit. So  much to my delight I received an e-mail from her yesterday informing me that she was ready to let it go. I told her I would be over right after work. I couldn't get there fast enough to load up my new chair and bring it home. I am so loving it!

I was off today and had my plans together this morning for some thrift shopping. First stop was Catholic Social Services. I must say it was nice to take my time and leisurely stroll through the store verses rushing through during my lunch break. I found a couple of things I am very excited about. Back in the sewing area I found 2 American Fashion Institute Master Pattern kits. These will be staying with me. The next item I came across is quite adorable, there on the shelf mixing up some cocktails was Jeeves. He is a decanter made in Japan (he came with a little bar and glasses). Although I do collect bar ware, I think Jeeves is going to the booth. The last item I picked up was a lovely glass bottle, not sure if it is a perfume bottle or not, but it was unique and it will accompany Jeeves over to the booth.

Quite satisfied and ready to move on, I headed over to the Salvation Army. I found several books that had beautiful illustrations and had to put them in my cart. Also found another sewing book for my collection. Picked up a few sewing notions, several glasses and a old paint by number picture.
