Hi Ho Cherry O

I had all intentions of staying home this weekend and doing some sewing but that is not the way things turned out. There were two estate sales in our area today and the pull was just to much to resist. So I headed over to mom's this morning and off we went. The first sale did not render much but I did get a set of vintage canisters and some old silverware.

The next sale was in Aiken SC, so we had a little ride ahead of us and decided to break out the GPS. Upon arriving at the sale I noticed from the sign that this was the second day of the sale (could be a good thing or a bad thing). I do think it might have been a bad thing in this case. Most everything was picked over and there really wasn't that much left (and it was advertised as a HUGE sale). So either it wasn't that huge or they really had some action on Friday. Anyway we rummaged through what was left and I was pleasantly surprised to find a set of vintage cocktail napkins (which I collect). They are so adorable with the cherries on them and are in great condition. I also found a few other goodies:

On the way home we thought we would hit a couple of thrift stores in Aiken but they were a bust. So we stopped at our Goodwill once we got back to Augusta and I am so glad that we did because I found a vintage "NOEL" candle set.

So we had a pretty successful day and I'm glad I went out however I hope that there is some sewing going on here tomorrow. I have a couple of projects that I am ready to get started.

Hope you all have had a great weekend and found many treasures.

Hanky Panky

I don't know what the weather was like for you this weekend but it has been a rainy one here. Even more gloomy is the fact that there have not been any good sales in two weeks. In spite of the weather and the lack of sales, mom and I decided to get out on Saturday and see what we could find at the thrift stores. A few months ago we discovered a great little thrift store over in North Augusta. I have only been once but mom has been over there several times and has started to form a friendship with the lady that owns the store. On Friday mom had gone over and the owner had let her dig through boxes of goodies that were still boxed up and had not been put out yet. I must say mom found some treasures. Mom told the owner we would be back on Saturday. This is where we found most of our haul for the weekend. I found some unique jewelry and some great vintage floral hankies. I don't usually buy a lot of hankies because they don't really sell very well here. These were so pretty though that I decided I would just add them to my personal collection. Here are the items I came home with:

Let me back up to for a minute, on Friday while I was at work my mother was out at the thrift shops. She called me at work around lunch time and said that she was at the Catholic Social Services and had found a child sized mannequin (I have been searching for one forever) and wanted to know if I wanted it. Now this particular thrift store is about 5 minutes from my work so I asked her to guard it until I could get there. I jumped in the car and headed that way. I found mom inside carrying around the mannequin (I thought she would have just put it up front, I didn't mean for her to carry it around). It is not vintage but it is the right size (3/4) to be of help with my sewing for the red headed girls. I was very excited and of course I brought the mannequin home with me and have already named her "Hilda".

I also picked up a few glass jars for button storage.

Hope you all had a fabulous weekend and found many treasures.

Throwing Some Junk Together

I stayed in this weekend (blah). Mom and I had discussed going to an estate sale in Columbia SC but I think mom was feeling a little under the weather and we cancelled. So I took advantage of the time at home working on organizing my sewing room. The inventory of junk I have picked up has threatened to overtake my sewing space. My work keeps me very busy during this time of year and will not let up until after the first week in April, so most of my finds just get thrown into my sewing room until I can decide if I am going to keep them or put them in the booth. Anyway, back to the job at hand. I will be the first to admit that my sewing room is a disaster. I wanted to organize and display some of my vintage sewing goodies (I always, always pick up vintage sewing items at sales). So that is where I started. Although I still have a lot of work to do I did make a lot of progress. So here is a peak at some of my vintage sewing goodies:

I think it's so great that a bunch of random junk can come together to make such a beautiful display. I still have a ways to go with this room and will share more as I get it together.

Hope you all had a fabulous weekend and found many lovely vintage goodies!

A Basket Full of Sunshine

It was a beautiful day to get out and go junking on Saturday. Two estate sales were advertised and mom and I decided we would hit both and then go and check out a couple of the thrift stores. Mom recently got a GPS (as we are directionally challenged), so this was our first time using it. It took us straight to the first sale with no problems although it was hard to talk over the constant chatter of the GPS. I picked up some Fiesta, an industrial chair, a garden statue, and a few other odds and ends.

So as we left the first sale we put the address for the second sale into the GPS and off we went. Believe it or not we could not find the second sale. The GPS had us right on top of it but all we saw was a Church. We rode up and down that road two or three times and finally decided that the GPS was wrong or we had put in the wrong street number. We did eventually find the sale (thank goodness because it was a hoarding delight). We were overwhelmed with the basement in this house, there was so much junk and we love nothing better than digging through tons of junk. I found some vintage Christmas items, two old laundry baskets, and some old marquee letters. Upstairs I found a vintage planter and some beautiful vintage sheets, pillow cases, and aprons. There was a little bit of disappointment as I really wanted the chandelier in the entry way (one of the most beautiful ones I have ever seen) but they were not selling it (I asked twice). Mom bought an old typewriter table and we paid and then tried to figure out how we were going to get all of this in her car. We had to completely unload and reload the car but we did finally get it all in there.

My basket full of Sunshine!

I really love these

I found two of these laundry baskets.

Needless to say, we did not make it to the thrift stores, we were exhausted after unloading and reloading the car. So we just headed on home with our treasures.

If anyone is a Fiesta expert I could use some help identifying the color of the green Fiesta I bought. There are several greens that were made and I think this is medium green but I am not sure.

More photos here on our Facebook.

Hope you all had a fabulous weekend and found beautiful treasures.
