Vintage Patterns

As it gets colder here the yard sales become almost nil and the estate sales seem few and far between. Junk Hunting is therapy for me, so it's hard when I can't get my fix every weekend. Lucky for me I have another passion (addiction) that can keep me sane during the colder months when the junk hunting is not so abundant. I love, love, love to sew! I collect vintage sewing patterns and like to use them for many of my sewing projects. I have decided to try to make a dress for myself using one of my vintage patterns for my next project, so I spent a good portion of the day yesterday sorting and organizing my patterns in hopes of finding the  perfect one for this project. As I was sorting and looking through all of that vintage beauty I thought I would share some of my favorites with you (warning - lots of pics). Just so you know I pretty much like all vintage patterns 1970's and earlier (not a fan of 80' fashion - hey I lived it and when I look at pictures of myself from that decade I cringe and say to myself "Oh My - did you really wear that").

Children's Patterns
(I use these for the Red Headed Girls)

And as I am expecting a great nephew in December, I have some for boys too!

Wow, there are just so many patterns to choose from! How will I ever decide!

  1. I loved looking through your vintage patterns! Oh, clothes back then were just so gorgeous. I especially love all the little girl's dresses, worn with Mary Janes. I know exactly what you mean about vintage hunting being "therapy!" There are hardly any sales where I live either, so I have to depend on thrifting. Luckily, there are a few good stores here that I can visit. I hope you'll share the results of your sewing! :)

  3. I really enjoy your blog, especially with all the pictures you share of your estate sale finds. Thanks for sharing your patterns - what a nostalgic trip for me, having been a fashion-conscious teen in the 60's here in California! I kept a couple of Seventeen magazines from the late 60's/early 70's, and it surprises even me to be reminded that sewing was so common and popular back then. Almost half of the clothes shown in the magazines are from sewing patterns. (Not just the ads, but the editorial features.) It was less expensive of course, but the pattern and fabric choices seemed unlimited, so it was a fun way to be original - and of course we all took sewing classes in high school! Thanks again for sharing.

  4. These are fun to view! : ) There's a blog that I have visited from time to time called Apron History and she is wild about old aprons and patterns. One of your patterns reminded me of her blog...if you've not visited it yet you'd might enjoy it too ! : )

  7. What a fabulous collection! I love the one of the little girl coats with the flower petal hats. All are wonderful though. I graduated from high school in 71. Boy did we love our mini skirts. I adore the 60's patterns. Thanks for sharing with Share Your Cup.
