Back in the Game

After being sidelined for the last two weekends (due to the nasty yucky flu), I was so excited to get back in the junk hunting game this weekend. A Methodist church held their semi annual rummage sale yesterday and Mom and I were there before the crack of dawn. I usually bring home quite a haul from this sale but is was a bust for me this go round. The best thing I found was a  pair of vintage gloves (still in the original package) and an old DuBarry hand mirror.

We wrapped up at the church sale and headed over to an annual neighborhood sale that usually has pretty good treasures but again it was a major disappointment. I did find a few good treasures though. A while back I had picked up a gorgeous cake plate because cake plates sell pretty good in our booth but this particular cake plate seems to still be sitting on the industrial rack in my kitchen. I just thought is was so lovely I couldn't part with it. Well yesterday I found another one just like it. This one will go to the booth (I love it when I find two of the same thing, that way I can keep one and sell one). I also stumbled upon two beautiful chenille blankets.

Our last stop of the day was the most exciting for me (not sure about Mom though). It was an estate sale advertising 1000's of items. Well the 1000's of items weren't in the house (in fact there wasn't that much in the house at all). However when I went around  to the back yard there were 1000's of items in a number of broken down old out buildings. I must say I felt like a real American Picker maneuvering through those dilapidated buildings. Unfortunately it was impossible to get to a lot of the stuff (and I have a feeling there was some good stuff buried in there) but I managed to drag out the following items.

How great is this old garden hose reel. I found three fabulous ideas for for transforming this and posted them on our Facebook if you want to check them out.

Loved these old gas cans.

Hoping I can bring some life back to this little piece.

I don't know what this was originally used for but I am going to clean it up and use it as a thread holder.

I also found this little clock (well part of a clock). I loved the clock face.

So in the end I guess it was not such a disappointing day after all!
Hoping you are having a wonderful weekend!

Little Watering Can for My Flowers

We have a wonderful florist at work who creates some fabulous arrangements for all of our events. We had a luncheon today and the flowers she brought in were breathtaking. I was able to bring home a few of the arrangements but my favorite has to be this little tiny bouquet. It fit perfectly in a small old watering can I have. Isn't it great how something so small can make you so happy!

A Religious Experience

I met Mom Thursday evening after work to stop by an Estate Sale. Not just any estate sale but a Hill estate sale (the oldest houses in Augusta). Wish I had taken my camera so I could show you the house (it was amazing). I hadn't even gotten into the house when I picked up three cute garden signs.  I carried them in with me and started a pile. As I was laying the signs down a man asked me where I got them and I said I had picked them up outside the door. He said they were his, they were not marked sold so how was I to know. I didn't want to argue or be rude (I kinda wanted to say, you should have brought them inside or marked them) so I asked if he would let me have one and he agreed.

There was a lot to look at so I headed upstairs first. There were oodles of hats, belts, purses, and clothes. I picked up quite a few hats to include a Stetson Bowler (which I am loving).

As I added the hats to my pile I noticed another pile full of Vintage Christmas, dang I was disappointed I missed out on that! Oh well couldn't let that deflate me. I moved into the Dining Room and was struck by the table filled with vintage Catholic items. Mom was behind me and she reminded me I wasn't Catholic but I can't help it I am just drawn to the beauty of these objects.

I also picked up this Chalkware Madonna. She was stunning! She was sitting on a cheese plate with dome. The cheese plate had been turned upside down so that she would fit. I thought it was a fabulous idea!

After my religious experience I moved to the room that had old toys. I found a little bag of doll clothes, a teeny cloth doll and one very special doll. The special doll looked like she had surgery by some Mad Doll Surgeon. She seems to be made up of two different dolls. The top half is lovely, the bottom have is a strange. She is so out of proportion but you know I like the odd & unusual so I am giving her a home.

One last item I picked up was this little spice shelf. I love the little drawers. If I keep this it will get a little TLC and some paint.

I really wanted to go back today when they started marking down but Doctor's orders have me stuck at home and quite honestly after chest X-ray's, a shot, a breathing treatment, and three prescriptions I don't really feel like going. So I will follow the Doctor's advice and stay home and rest.

On a different note I have made some more progress with the Red Headed Girls costume. Here is a peek!

Hope you are having a great weekend!

Please visit our Facebook Page here for more photo's of the treasures I picked up from this sale. We would like you to "love" us on Facebook but since that option is not available we would love you to "like" us!
