Rescuing a Ballerina

Yesterday Mom and I went out junking for the first time in a couple of months (hence my absence from blogging). We were both missing not only the junk hunting but also the time we get to spend together on Saturday mornings. We headed off to the  one estate sale advertised but when we got there it was a little bit of a disappointment to me. There were some nice pieces but the prices were high even at the 50% markdown and it just wasn't one of those sales with lots of stuff to dig through. I managed to find one little quirky bottle. It's an old Sanitol Tooth powder bottle. I think it dates to somewhere around 1900 to 1910.

We decided to hit up a few thrift shops after leaving the estate sale and I found a few more small treasures to include some vintage jumbo playing cards (which I can use for a project I saw on pinterest), some old dice, and an embroidered Scottie Dog picture.

As for as the Ballerina goes, I saw her on a Christmas tree in one of the Thrift shops and she looked like she needed rescuing. Her little head is very fragile and coming apart and I felt like no one would want her, but she is still a little cutie and I will place her in my sewing room with some of my other misfit toys and hopefully she will be happy there!

Hope everyone is enjoying their weekend!

One other thing, I posted about a website last week that has vintage Christmas catalogs going back to the 1930's that you can scroll through page by page. This is great for researching your vintage finds. I found another website this week that has a ton of vintage advertisements. This also is a great site to use for research. If you want to check it out, you can find it here.

  1. Glad to see your blog post, I've missed you. The ballerina has found a loving home I'm sure she will be very happy.

  2. Great finds! I am curious about your jumbo playing card project? I have some of those too, but have no idea what to really do with them...

  3. i went to my first sale of the year yesterday and it was a dissapointment too. i have been missing it! that bottle is very cool though, and that little ballerina couldn't be more sweet. i'm glad you saved her!

  4. So glad you rescued the ballerina :) And the bottle is a real find.

  5. Seems we are all suffering from thrift/sales withdrawal! You did find some lovely things and had a chance to spend time junkin' with your mom, so a good day despite the high prices. Oh, and you know I am lovin' that Scottie picture.

  6. Great finds! I have a couple decks of those jumbo playing cards . . . I have been going to turn them into paper dolls. I especially think that the Queen of Hearts would make a wonderful doll:)
    Have a marvelous week.
