Darn It!

I had all intentions of staying in this weekend, there was only one estate sale in Thomson GA and I had made up my mind earlier in the week that I was not going to go. That all changed on Thursday when I got a call from Mom. The sneaky little thing had gone out there (without me) to scope things out and thought this was a must for us on Saturday when everything was going to be 50% off. So as I have no self control I found myself in the car on the way to Thomson on Saturday morning. I have to say there was a lot of stuff and most of it was old (it was advertised as a five generation sale). I poked around in the barn first and found this lovely little set of dishes at the 50% off price (they ended up costing me $2.50). When I got them home I found that some pieces were chipped (I ended up with 15 good pieces) but for that price they still make a very pretty display. The pattern is called "Fruit Festival" (I really love that name).

I also picked up the little beaded pitcher/milk jug cover. It's purpose is to lay over the jug or pitcher to keep flies out. The beads were used to weigh it down.

As I was digging through a huge basket of jewelry I spotted a little bag sitting all by itself beside the basket. I guess people were so anxious to get to the basket that they didn't notice the little treasure that was in that bag. It held a tiny square silver thing. I picked it up and examined it a little closer and discovered it was a postage stamp holder. It has to be one of the cutest things I have ever seen. It has a patent date of April 22, 1890.

On my last pass through the house (I had to make several because there was so much stuff) I found another bag with two sock darners in it. These were not the ordinary sock darners that I usually find at estate sales. Could it be that they had sterling handles? I took off my glasses (yep I am at that age) to see if I could find a sterling mark and YES they both were marked sterling.

Here are a couple of other fantastic finds from the sale:

I fell in love with these napkin rings!

I don't usually buy coffee cups but this one is so unique, the lid is an ash tray, I loved the little lady sitting at her desk (and notice the typewriter on the desk).

Lovely little vintage planter marked USA.

I got two really great frames. They are the long rectangular kind with beautiful details.

I also got a beautiful vintage wool cape, some great vintage head scarves, a cake plate and a few other things. You can see them here. I am glad Mom talked me into going and even more glad that I stayed within my budget which was $40. My total was $39 so it was close.

So yesterday evening there was a knock at my door. Now who could be dropping by on a Saturday evening. Well to my delight it was my brother (by far the best brother in the world) and my nephew. My brother had been out to the flea market yesterday morning and had dropped by to bring me a little something he had picked up that he thought I might like (he knows me so well). So feast your eyes on this:

Isn't she a thing of beauty already settled in her new home!
