The Peach Farm

Mom and I made a trip out to Trenton SC to pick a Peach Farm this weekend. I was hoping for a big pile of junk to dig through but that just was not the case. However there were two closets full of vintage clothing from the 1950's and I ended up buying several pieces that I thought could be restored to their former beauty. The pieces I purchased included a ton of Lady Lynne nightgowns, three dresses, a polka dot blouse and a wool suit that all looked salvageable. I cleaned the nightgowns and they turned out very nice. Some of them are baby doll style pajamas with bloomers (I just adore these). I dropped the dresses and suit off at the dry cleaners and am crossing my fingers that they will come back to me in pristine condition. I also got a few smalls and an old galvanized peach picking bucket with the strap still on it. Mom found some sweet old polish folk art dolls. We had fun even though it was not the junky kind of sale we were hoping for.

Here are the nightgowns, I didn't take photos of the dresses and suit yet (I will when I get them back from the dry cleaners)

Here are the smalls and Mom's folk art dolls (a 1940's Statue of Liberty Souvenir Enamel Pin, a Great Dane Trucking Sterling and enamel 5 year service pin, an opal stick pin, a sterling baby bracelet, and a Kesslers Whiskey Key Chain)

Hope you had a wonderful weekend and rescued lots of vintage!

Augusta History - Augusta Art Gallery

A while back my brother gave me an album full of old cabinet cards. I looked through them quickly and then tucked them away for later examination. This week I revisited those old cards and was so delighted to find one that was taken right here in Augusta GA.

I was so excited to find a little piece of Augusta GA History!
The Dyer Building where the Augusta Art Gallery was located burned down in March of 1916. You can read about it here.

Swizzle Sticks

Well Mom just didn't have time for me today. No junking for her as she has been super busy getting all her jewelry ready for the Art in the Park Show tomorrow. So I dragged my son out with me (I would have gone alone but the sale was way out in the boondocks). It actually turned out that I knew the person who had lived at this house. I worked with her many years ago. It was kind of strange digging through her stuff. I actually will probably keep a lot of the stuff I bought today so that kind of made me feel okay about it. Clearly my former colleague enjoyed cocktails and cards. I didn't buy any cards but I did buy a few cocktail related items (I collect vintage bar items). I picked up a whole basket of plastic swizzle sticks and my son found some glass ones down in the basement. They are really retro - I just love them.

Here are the glass ones - they have tiny records dangling from them, most of the labels of the records have worn off but I still love them.

And here are some of the plastic ones, I'll let you guess which plastic ones are my favorite!

I do believe all of these will go in my vintage cocktail collection! They are just so fun. I bought a lot more fun stuff including a beautiful Lucite clock. You can go here if you want to see all the junk I bought today.

Hoping everyone has a wonderful weekend and finds lots of good junk!

Chenille People

I don't know about you but I love vintage chenille figures. They are just so adorable but I rarely find them at sales. Today must have been my lucky day because I found a box full of them! Really I could have stopped right then and gone home with my box of chenille people and been perfectly happy (but you know me I didn't go home, I shopped some more). So here' a peek at the darlings that were in the box!

These are keepers!
Of course these beauties were not my only purchase this morning, if you want to see the rest of my haul you can see it here.

Mom and I may go back tomorrow!
